“Just” as an word in different word forms, nuances and transforms.
This past Thursday I was a floating substitute teacher.
For one of the periods I was covering a music class, in a school where the teachers and the program has been legendary for decades.
As I walked in I met with the teacher and offered a laudatory comment. His response/remark was characteristically humble “I just wave the sticks.”
This remark reminds of characteristics of true leadership which Paul wrote to his colleagues in Ephesians (Ephesians 4:1-6) “I … urge you to live in a manner worthy of the call you have received, with all humility and gentleness, with patience …”
This teacher/leader trains students to excel, shine, celebrate, locally and nationally, with a humility expressed in the simple and profound statement “I just wave the sticks.”
Such a person, a presence transforms and thus elevates others.
Keep “waving those sticks” because such a person both orchestrates music for the present and lives for the future!
