Usually I am a news follower, sometimes too much so.
Lately I realize that I have had too much of … fill in your enough of …
I now watch very little TV now and in its stead I read, and pray.
I realize that while Carol and I are by ourselves, we also have many others persons with us — in our minds and on our hearts.
So I pray for those who are with us but not with us physically.
Prayer links these persons to the present.
That is the motto of a writer and thinker of some time ago — John Henry Cardinal Newman.
May He support us all the day long,
till the shades lengthen and
the evening comes, and
the busy world is hushed, and
the fever of life is over, and
our work is done.
Then in His mercy
may He give us
a safe lodging, and
a holy rest and
peace at the last.
